“To give love you have to receive love” - Agree or Disagree?from moosevox
Okay, I read this a few days ago and had to think to be honest. The following is what I believe I want to say:
I disagree that to give love you have to receive love. I do think most people have the added expectation to receive that love back, even if they don’t even admit it to themselves. There is love all around and to differing degrees to different people. Sometimes you may love someone without receiving love back or even love someone to a differing degree than the degree in which they love you.
What’s more important to a relationship: common values or other commonalities (like tastes in music, interests, etc.)?from moosevox
I definitely have to say values. When peoples values are questioned, their actions and words show how it becomes a “Black-White/Right-Wrong” type of thing to them. When their music or any other interest is questioned, it’s usually not quite as dramatic.
Do you try to avoid controversy? Should you?from moosevox
Yes, I do think I try to avoid controversy. I might not need to do it as much as I do. Controversy is nothing more than a strong difference of opinion.
No, I don’t think I should avoid it to the degree I have become accustomed to. If the controversial topic isn’t going to cause any harm, then I should feel free to express my own thoughts on the matter. If harm would come to me for expressing such, then maybe I’m amongst the wrong people. If harm does come to any others because of a controversial topic, it no longer would be a simple controversy, it would be a problem.
Somehow, at different points in my life, I’ve caused controversy but I do try to avoid it more than cause it.
I’ve taken the other side in a topic for fun.
I’ve taken the other side in a topic to try to view other points of view from my footwear and sometimes I even excel at it.
I’ve even taken a topic and kept switching sides as soon as the friend I’m talking to agrees with me.
I don’t do those things to be a pain, but usually it’s fun when my brain is thinking on that level.
I know, it sounds as if I like controversy.. more like: I like light controversy in a controlled environment.
I do not like when controversy is brought up when someone is drunk. Something about a drunk person, they can (sometimes) make a world of sense but I can’t take them seriously. That and they also tend to get a little more forceful, in my experience, when you disagree with them.
To answer more clearly I think that I avoid controversial topics with certain friends and most strangers.
Should I be so avoiding of such?
I suppose that maybe I shouldn’t so much, but I do and I’m not in a hurry to become more boisterous over an opinion.
I hope that answered your question.
Is there a such thing as too much self-criticism?from moosevox
Too much self-criticism is possible. There’s a danger in criticizing oneself too much. I know I have been guilty of it myself. It’s a fine line that, when crossed, turns into a vicious circle before you even realize you crossed it.
I think the ability to criticize oneself is important though. I suppose its true what they say, “Everything in moderation”.

Would you give up something you love if you knew it was killing you?from moosevox
My first response is to answer with an emphatic “Yes!!” but then I talked myself down from the “of course I’d give up something that was killing me” ideal frame of mind and thought about real examples.
Substances: Namely smoking, which I quit because it was killing me (its what cigarettes are known for) but it took me almost 2 decades of knowing it was killing me before I finally convinced myself to quit. Luckily my doctors didn’t have to give me bad news before I took the reins on that (now ceased) activity.
People: An ex boyfriend, you said some”thing” not some”one” but there is one ex boyfriend this question fits and it took me almost a decade to fully quit that relationship, it truly would have been the death of me.
Foods: As a general rule I eat healthy. Its the sodium level in some foods that make them dangerous for me and yet I still allow little foods in my diet occasionally such as Kraft Dinner (Mac & Cheese) or Lays Limon flavored chips.
So yes I would give something I love up if I knew it was killing me but I make make the whole “giving it up” process a bit longer than I should.
